Being Black in Business: What They Don’t Always Tell You

1. You must be resilient. You’re going to hear “no” more times than you’d like. Sometimes, the odds really do feel stacked against you. But here's the truth: you can still win. You can be prepared, focused, and unshakable. When it gets tough (and it will), let it fuel you — not break you.

2. Be your own advocate. No one will believe in your vision more than you — and that’s okay. Speak up for your business. Practice your pitch until it’s second nature. See a grant? Apply. Hear about funding? Reach out. Closed doors are just redirections. Keep knocking.

3. Creativity is your superpower.Access might be limited, but our creativity is limitless. Being a Black entrepreneur means finding your own lane — and building it if it doesn’t exist. The internet’s full of copycats — you’re here to innovate, not imitate.

4. Confidence isn’t optional — it’s essential. You have to believe in what you’re building, even when no one else does yet. Your story, your work, your presence — they all matter. Someone is watching you and waiting for a reason to believe in themselves because they saw you do it first.

5. Persistence wins. Every time. There’s no cheat code. Faith, hard work, and consistency — that’s the formula. Even when progress feels slow, you’re still moving. Keep showing up. Keep building. Keep praying. Keep pushing.

Being a Black entrepreneur is not easy, but it's powerful. It's possible. It's necessary. If you’ve got the passion and you’re willing to do the work — I’m here to tell you: you can make it. And you won’t be the only one. You’ll be opening doors for the next person, too.
