Your website is your digital storefront. And just like a brick-and-mortar shop, if it’s messy, confusing, or slow - people won’t stick around. Whether you built your site yourself or hired someone to do it, there could be hidden issues quietly scaring potential customers away.

Here are 10 common website mistakes I see all the time - and how to fix them (or have me fix them 👀).

✅ The 10 Mistakes (with solutions):

  1. Your homepage doesn’t pass the 5-second testFix: Make sure people can instantly understand who you are, what you do, and how you can help.

  2. Slow loading speedFix: Compress images, use fewer plugins, and check performance in tools like GTmetrix.

  3. Too much text, not enough hierarchyFix: Use headings, bolding, and spacing to guide the eye. Less is more.

  4. Unclear call-to-action (CTA)Fix: Every page should have a goal. Lead your visitor there clearly.

  5. Not optimized for mobileFix: Preview your site on multiple devices or use responsive builders like Wix Editor X.

  6. Broken links or outdated contentFix: Set a reminder to check your site monthly. No one wants to land on a 404.

  7. No SEO basics in placeFix: Add page titles, meta descriptions, image alt tags, and keyword-rich copy.

  8. No lead captureFix: Add a freebie, newsletter signup, or contact form to collect emails and build your list.

  9. Overcomplicated navigationFix: Keep your menu simple. No more than 5–6 top-level links max.

  10. Generic brandingFix: Use a consistent color palette, clear messaging, and images that reflect your vibe.

If you spotted more than 3 of these issues on your site - don’t panic. These are fixable (and honestly, super common). If you're ready to elevate your online presence and make your site work for you, I’d love to help.

Your website is more than just a digital placeholder. It’s your first impression, your online storefront, and in many cases - your biggest sales tool.

So the big question is: What is your website really saying about your business?

Let’s break down the unspoken messages your website might be sending (and how to turn things around).

1. “I’m not ready yet.”

When your website looks incomplete or outdated, it sends a clear message: this business isn’t quite ready. That could be missing content, broken links, placeholder text, or pages that feel half-done.

Fix it:

  • Audit your site regularly (or book a quick coaching session for support)

  • Remove “coming soon” pages or unfinished sections

  • Focus on doing less but doing it well

2. “I don’t really know what I offer.”

If your homepage has too much going on - or it’s not immediately clear who you help and how — you’re losing people fast. Confused visitors won’t convert.

Fix it:

  • Use a clear headline that says what you do and who it’s for

  • Make sure your offer is obvious within the first 5 seconds

  • Avoid jargon — speak directly to your ideal client

3. “I’m not confident in my business yet.”

Inconsistent branding, off-center photos, or generic visuals send the wrong vibe. It can feel unintentional - and people pick up on that energy.

Fix it:

  • Invest in a simple, cohesive brand identity (like my Perfect Brand Bundle)

  • Align your fonts, colors, and messaging

  • Remember: polished ≠ perfect. It just needs to feel aligned.

4. “I’m not focused on you - I’m focused on me.”

If your site talks all about you (and not enough about your client), it can feel disconnected. People visit your site to see what you can do for them.

Fix it:

  • Shift your copy from “I” to “you”

  • Highlight the transformation your client will get

  • Use testimonials to build trust and show real results

5. “I’m not here to guide you - you’re on your own.”

If there’s no clear path, no call-to-action, and no direction on what to do next, visitors won’t move forward.

Fix it:

  • Add clear buttons and simple navigation

  • Tell people what the next step is (Book, Call, Buy, Contact)

  • Make it easy to say “yes” to working with you
